There are twelve teams that will compete in the College Football Playoff, which will begin the following season. All of the teams who qualified for the playoffs, including conference champions and retro bowl participants, will compete against one another in a tournament with a single elimination option to determine the National Champion. The College Football Playoff will involve a total of twelve teams for the very first time this year, and it will also be the first time that a playoff will be a single-elimination tournament.
